2024-25 HIGH PERFORMANCE PITCHING
Catalyst Softball High Performance (HP) Pitching Program
The Catalyst Softball High Performance (HP) Pitching Program is an 18-week, in-depth training experience designed for pitchers who are committed to mastering their craft. This comprehensive program combines advanced technology, individualized skill development, and personal growth to help athletes enhance their pitching performance.
Our program incorporates cutting-edge tools such as Rapsodo technology, 4D Motion, and High-Speed Video to provide precise, data-driven feedback. This allows us to tailor each training session to the unique needs of every pitcher, ensuring targeted improvement and measurable results.
Through focused coaching, we guide athletes in understanding their body mechanics and teach them how to better control and optimize their movements to achieve peak performance. While data is valuable, the long-term sustainability of success comes from teaching pitchers how to position themselves for efficient biomechanical sequencing. Mastering this will allow athletes to throw with greater consistency, power, and precision.
Program Details:
-
Ages: 12-18
-
Duration: 18 Weeks (November to March)
-
Focus: Individualized skill development, biomechanical optimization, and performance improvement through technology and expert instruction.
-
This program is designed to help pitchers refine their technique and elevate their game, ensuring they leave each session with a clear path for continued growth.

-
Introductory Phase: Start the development process with a focus on understanding the biomechanics of the pitching motion. Athletes will be introduced to the data that will be tracked and analyzed throughout the program to monitor their progress.
-
Circuit Phase: Enhance physicality and proprioceptive abilities through dynamic circuit training, designed to challenge and stimulate the body in various ways.
-
Internal Phase: Assess and refine the skills gained during the circuit phase, focusing on pitch pattern development while reassessing data to make adjustments and improvements.
-
External Phase: Shift the focus from internal thought processing to external execution. This phase emphasizes variability training and competition to prepare athletes for live game situations.
-
Live Phase: As the season approaches, athletes will commit fully to external training through live at-bats and/or machine training, simulating real game conditions.
Before we begin, we’ll meet with you to discuss your offseason goals and tailor the program to best fit your needs. If you don't have solidified goals yet, no problem! Our primary objective will be to build on your existing foundation as a pitcher. We focus on enhancing your mechanics, increasing rotational power, and refining pitch movement. While data is a valuable tool, sustainability comes from teaching players how to position themselves correctly, optimizing their bio-mechanics, and executing efficiently.
-
Testing: Our program kicks off with individual assessments to establish baseline data. We maintain a maximum of a 4:1 player-to-coach ratio to ensure personalized attention. Training, assessment, and reassessment are ongoing to set goals, make adjustments, and track progress.
-
Education: We believe in empowering our athletes with a clear understanding of the data we collect. It’s essential to know what we measure and why. We’ll break down complex terminology into simple, actionable insights to help you make necessary adjustments. Pitching is an ever-evolving skill, and while we may not have all the answers, we’ll be transparent with our athletes and committed to evolving together through data-driven coaching.
-
Data Collection: Throughout the program, we will track the following metrics to assess progress:
-
Average and Maximum Velocity: Measured in mph
-
Spin Rate: Total revolutions per minute (rpm) of a pitched ball, accounting for backspin, topspin, sidespin, and gyroscopic spin.
-
Spin Efficiency: The ratio of true spin to total spin, directly impacting a pitch’s gyro degree.
-
Spin Direction: Measured in degrees, indicating whether the ball has backspin or topspin.
-
Horizontal and Vertical Break: Vertical break is created by backspin and topspin, while horizontal break results from sidespin.
-
-
Athlete Autonomy: We believe in fostering athlete autonomy within our program. Occasionally, athletes will be given the opportunity to choose the type of training they want to focus on during specific sessions. This helps build decision-making skills and ownership over their development.
-
Strength & Development: Strength and performance training are integral to your offseason progression. We have partnered with Strength & Development trainers who will guide you through exercises that target power and explosiveness. The focus will be on developing strength qualities relevant to your sport, such as sprinting, jumping, and quick directional changes. The Strength Qualities we evaluate are:
-
Rate of Force Development (RFD): How quickly and forcefully can your muscles generate movement?
-
Eccentric Ability: How well can your muscles stretch and absorb force (think of the rubber band effect)?
-
Yielding Strength: Stability and your ability to resist or absorb force.
-
Reactive Strength: Your ability to transition quickly from a stretching to a shortening motion (absorbing and transferring force).
-
All softball training will be conducted in one-hour sessions. Strength & Development training is available Monday through Saturday in fixed time slots and is not included in HP pricing, but can be purchased separately.
